Safety first and get fun
Well known surfers' slogan is "The most important in surfing is getting fun!". Our school's slogan is "Safety first!" also.
First steps are hard, but after - freedom, space, sliding, joy.. Plus more strong body, spirit, coping with fears, stresses, self-improvement, "feeling yourself better, than yesterday".. But this is by the way, but more important is getting fun. For better progress should be competent supervision. Surfing is not just to stand up and to keep the balance. It's a multidimensional process: to understand the wave, to stand up in time, to turn in time, to feel the wave's energy and so on.. To feel surfing. And good teacher, who knows all this, can correct the student. Not forgetting about safety rules, body and mind should stay relaxed, and in this way the balance and reactions will be better, because tensioned body spend a lot of energy pulling attention to it. And better to take one good wave, than in rush several.
First lesson begins with practice of stand up, take off, on the sand and after in the water, in breaking waves, "white water". Depending from the fit level and balance feeling usually students need about 3 lessons before starting to learn surfing on "green waves". But every student has his own progress speed.
Children can start learning surfing in the age of 5-6 years. The difference of learning children is that they need more time on beach for practice and the lesson in water is more short, because for children it's hard to keep the attention long time.
